Dawson Music Education Parent - Student - Instructor Rights and Responsibilities Music is an art form that requires musicians to practice, perform, and listen to music regularly. Any music student must practice important musical concepts that are introduced and reinforced during the lesson session. A partnership between the instructor, parents, and student must be established in order to create a consistent practice schedule and develop musicianship skills through good practice habits. What should the student bring to each lesson? • Bring journal notebook to each lesson • Bring all music assigned to each lesson • Bring their instrument to the lesson • A good attitude and a sense of joy Environment for the music lesson session at the student’s home Reasonable privacy for the duration of the lesson No cell phones or other communications devices in use Mandatory monitoring by one parent, guardian, or mentor for all students under 15 years of age for the duration of the lesson. All students under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
