Rights and Responsibilities

Music is an art form that requires musicians to practice, perform, and listen to music regularly. Any music student must practice important musical concepts that are introduced and reinforced during the lesson session. A partnership between the instructor, parents, and student must be established in order to create a consistent practice schedule and develop musicianship skills through good practice habits.

What should the student bring to each lesson?

•	Bring journal notebook to each lesson
•	Bring all music assigned to each lesson
•	Bring their instrument to the lesson
•	A good attitude and a sense of joy

Environment for the music lesson session at the student’s home

	Reasonable privacy for the duration of the lesson
	No cell phones or other communications devices in use
	Mandatory monitoring by one parent, guardian, or mentor for all students under 15 years of age for the duration of the lesson.
   All students under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Student Responsibilities

•	Arrive at lesson session on time and if delayed, please call the instructor
•	24 hours notice for any cancellation or rescheduling request
•	Demonstrate progress with the musical works or technical exercises assigned
•	Completion of all written homework assigned by the instructor
•	Student is required to study music every day
•	Daily practice session length shall be determined by the student’s level of proficiency
•	Ask questions
•	Have fun

Instructor Responsibilities

•	Arrive at lesson session on time and if delayed, instructor will call with ETA
•	24 hours notice for a session cancellation
•	Have a good attitude and be joyful no matter the circumstances
•	Prepared lesson plan for the student
•	Regular parent and teacher meetings
•	Always be loving and encouraging

Parent Responsibilities

•	Arrive at lesson session on time and if delayed, please call the instructor
•	24 hours notice for any cancellation or rescheduling request
•	Monitor the student’s practice schedule and ensure a good work ethic
•	Assist making the journal entries for the student (15 years old or younger)
•	Always be loving and encouraging
•	Recognize that music study will positively influence the student’s life

•	Acoustic guitar or electric guitar with practice amplifier
•	Spiral Notebook, staff paper, collection of recorded music
•	Music dictionary
•	Music Stand

•	Extra strings
•	Electronic Tuner

•	Basic electronic repair kit

Tools of the trade for the piano student

•	Piano (tuned by a professional piano tuner annually)
•	Piano bench
•	Spiral Notebook, staff paper, collection of recorded music
•	Music dictionary 
•	Lamp
•	Metronome 

Tools of the trade for the synthesizer/keyboard student 

•	Keyboard with regular sized, touch/velocity sensitive keys 
•	Spiral Notebook, staff paper, collection of recorded music
